It is, but what is more crazy is in 5 years just think of all the names dropping it will be like the old pre-nom days 
and by then i suppose the traffic on these dormant .uk domains will be established.
I wonder if in 5 years they will auction them off or just let people register them freely. ?

Yeah active in domains, but dont pay much attention to domain politcs
I wonder if Edwin can share some light on this and even better still what is his plans for the roll out of .uk edwins usually pretty ontop with this sort of thing.

I might no be what's dropping that'll be of interest, rather the opportunity to instantly register the .uk that such a drop unlocks.

If you don't register it within 5 years it will become available to anybody 10th June 2019.
If a co.uk with rights drops after the 10th 2014 then both name.uk and name.co.uk will be available seperatley to the first person who gets the catch in is the way I see it

I would imagine anyone in his position (thousands of lower end domains) are simply going to list the .co.uk's for sale as 'comes with qualification for .uk domain' and include that in the sale.
It would be pretty stupid to do anything else, at least for the first 5 years - why pay renewals on 1000's of domains if you don't have to?
Come 5 years there are going to be a lot of tough decisions for bulk portfolio holders - time to either admit domains were worthless and let them drop, or double up and pay for the .uk too. They're not going to be able to have it both ways - you can't charge even £100 for the .co.uk but refuse to take up your right to the .uk at reg fee when you're at the point of someone else being able to register it.
I don't really see many good .uk's going past the 5 year period and then being grabbed by anyone else. If you can see greatdomain.co.uk hasn't taken up their right in a year from now, domainers will be contacting them asking them to do it and sell it for £x. So they'll either get sold in this manner, or the contact itself will make the .co.uk owner realise its theres if they want it, and they'll take it up.
There aren't going to be many (or any) brilliant .co.uk domains that are abandoned now but won't drop naturally before the 5 years are up surely. I realise someone could have renewed a £50k domain for 10 years yesterday and dropped dead today... but its unlikely.

Certainly not going to register all of them immediately. I'm planning to get a few of the top names off the bat, and then see how .uk changes the sale picture i.e. does it stimulate demand, and if so, how much. Without a lot more information (that only time can bring) it's impossible to plan further than that right now.
Yep that makes sense, I am finding new customers i am selling co.uk to are asking me that they do want the .uk for the sake of £5 to just make sure thier business is protected as it could cause confusion if there was two business trading with the same name but one had co.uk and the second had .uk.
I wonder and only time will tell that customers/buyers only will buy a co.uk if it came with the .uk
