.uk the wiser option to .co.uk

Do you think it would be wiser to register a .uk over a .co.uk nowadays?

It maybe that people associate .co.uk as the defualt UK domain, but how long will this be the case, to me .uk is already starting to seem the nicer looking, less fussy, shorter (so quicker to type), more brandable, and more relevant option.

Why is it a convenience factor? I can't remember the last time I wrote a domain in the address bar. Chances are when I did, I didn't write it out fully thanks to auto-complete.

I personally still use .co.uk and will do until (or if) the .uk ever takes off.

Yes.

The shorter option has become the most favoured in other countries that started with third-level cctlds & then introduced the second-level cctld.

The same will happen here - eventually.

How many sites have I seen using .uk?, well not that many that i've noticed at the moment, however I was referring to the future and not the present or past, especially because all the decent and half decent domains have been taken in .co.uk, but for .uk there is a lot of 'half decent' names still available.

Which would you think carries the most authority today?, a half decent .uk or poor .co.uk

If i were to purchase both .co.uk and .uk for future domains then that means I will have to settle for a poor domain name in order to get both.

I suppose if the .uk does take off, then it will be too late for anyone who didn't register those half decent domains which they previously ignored due to them "at the time" not being as good as .co.uk.

The decent names showing as available are not really available as the holder of the co.uk will likely have rights.

If they were available the naysayers would be snapping them up like crazy

Can't see any logical reason not build out on .uk and 301 the .co.uk, then you can 'use' the .co.uk for advertising etc if you really worried.

tbh I feel sick when I see .co.uk in use now.. such a terrible clunky extension, very 2001, it's only bettered by the trusty .org.uk

Yes you are all right. Go with the .co.uk but protect your interest by also registering the .uk as if it takes off there are those who will take advantage of your lack of registering the .uk

Well in that case I have seen some 'half-decent' .uk domains available but not so much that I'd want to hold them long term with no development plan in mind.
