Looking for recommendations for UK based VPS Hosting. Would also consider recommendations for mid-range but decent dedicated servers.

Requirements:

Linux Based: Debian/Centos
CPanel
~2-4GB RAM
root/ssh essential (should be with vps anyway)

Self-managed / Minimal management. I'm pretty experienced with linux servers so can handle most things though decent base support for hardware technical issues is important.

Been looking at memset.com & clustered.net though will welcome other UK based options.

Thanks

Had dedicated server with poundhost.com for couple of years, had no problems, no downtime. Good price for server in BlueSquare data centre. Almost in London. Real bargain if you don't need cPanel. Although unmanaged, support been helpful without charging.

Tried memset they were ok didn't find them anything special, the mini server wasn't managed and just ended up being no good for my needs.

I can reccomend http://www.nimbushosting.co.uk/ never had such good support from a company and have been dealing with hosting companies for 10 years+

We resell BurstNet's UK VPS's and these seem to be OK, in Manchester though, but response seems pretty good compared with my other stuff in BlueSquare.

Im assuming thats 2-4GB or ram not ~200MB of ram.
If so I have some 'second user' dedicated servers available.
Can do 2 or 4GB ram, 2.4Ghz (at least) dual core C2D or Xeon CPUs, single or multiple disks. All sorts of options to suit.
Drop me a message if you would be interested!

I've used clustered.net for years and they are pretty rock solid. Would recommend them.

Not sure if your looking for managed or unmanaged, I found unless you have the time to waste go for managed might cost more but saves you a lot of hassle in the long run.

Unmanaged is fine. I've run linux servers for 15yrs. I can install & configure most things and I like to tinker with custom configurations including custom php, ntp & pgp.

Server is on its last legs so looking to split webdev/sites from other mission critical hence the probable move to 2-3 different places instead of one (and a bit). Cpanel is just for ease of use & dns for the webdev stuff.

fpr vps narrowed it down to:

clustered.net
xensmart (have a march offer)
memset

still may use dedi and small vps together.

With the nimbus hosting vps you can still tinker with things and they are flexible with packages. You can always ask them what they can do nothing to lose.

Just brought a cloud vps package through them and it's one of the fastest hosting companies I've used and you really get a personal service unlike others who just want to charge you for an email ticket.

Server has been resurrected but will still be looking at this over the next couple of weeks. Its was a long term strategy anyway, just now brought forward.
