I've been toying with creating some sort of script to possibly do everything an Affiliate would ever need to make a decent site. What features do you fellas think would be good to have (and may make you want to use it?)

I have:

  • Featured Products
  • Price Comparison Engine (Barcode and name lookups)
  • Reviews
  • Social Media Integration / Commenting / Signin
  • Mailchimp Integration
  • Feed Imports (You can dump a file with thousands of items in and it will add them as products, use feed data at own risk!)
  • Auto Internal Linking (say there is the word PS4 in a comment body or review, why not link it to a PS4 page on the site)

Voucher codes?

I hate the bloody things as an affiliate, but more and more people are searching for them.

The thing I'd most like is a best price and voucher code api we should integrate with product reviews to automate it. "Like this as much as we did? Buy it here and save 10% with code XXX" (and maybe list other stores just in case stock is an issue)

The thing with the codes now is that they issue.certain codes for certain categories. So if you had a review for a fridge, the code might only be for tvs but from the same place. It would be hard to automate that.

As for the best price, the find it for less api does that already :)

Still not with our own affiliate id though, right?

That would be tricky, it could be done but you would have to sign up to every program / network and then would need to be charged for API calls.

It's much easier to do it on the Skimlinks model. It wouldn't be so much an API if you wanted to use your own ID's it would be more the scripting for it.

Maybe the api request could include aff ids for partners you have relationships with, which the response could replace into the links sent back, but a skimlinks model could be used for anything not included?

It could do depending on the feed, you would then need to manually tell me who you have relationships with so I know wether to replace ids.

That's where it gets messy.

What would the issue with the skimlinks type be?

It's much easier to do it that way, as if I charged per 100 api calls for example your sites may not make anything but you still pay for the api calls.

Where as a small % means it's not costing anything as such up front.

Simple really - to minimise risk, I wouldn't want another middle man for any important affiliate relationships.

I see what you mean, in theory it could be done but the user would need to go through and select the merchants, as well add your id for each network.

Then it would just be a case of working out costing per x amount of calls.

It would then limit things with voucher codes on the api, because I may have voucher codes that you can't use and vice versa.
