We have recently been made aware of unsolicited mailings targeting domain name registrants. In a letter purporting to be a reminder to renew your domain, it asks you to register your domain with their company rather than your existing registrar - for a fee.

It suggests that if action is not taken quickly, it could result in the loss of your online identity.

Please be wary of any unsolicited emails or calls regarding your domain name(s) or web presence.

At least 5 years. Mind you is must work. One company has been sending me about 200 postal reminders a year. ( and whats bloody wrong with my other 200 TLD's domains - I want to ask them)

Got to love their discount table though - what's it something like

US$300 for 10 years = (Best Value)

I've been getting these since I was 15...so nearly a decade :p

National/international registrars get them too, which is quite amusing!

I wrote back to one of them using their reply-paid envelope asking for them to not bother in future. I still get them so now I just scrawl something across it and again, send it back using their paid envelope. They must have money to burn.

I wonder what the weight limit on a reply paid envelope is?

The one's I got today from domain r*n*wal group had "affix postage here" on the reply envelope, so no joy there.
