One of my usb pen drives has managed to lose it's formatting meaning windows can't read the data and is suggesting I format it.

There's some files on there I'd rather not lose, but I can't find a freeware program to help me recover them.

One I've found seems to find them but wants $45 for doing it.

Does anyone know of a free/cheaper (and trojan-free) alternative?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks admin, but it can't recover data when a boot sector is corrupt :(

You might try the program fdisk.exe on the net or on one of your old Win CDs. Try:

fdisk /mbr

A data recovery utility might have trouble recovering anything that's not in a subdir; i.e. all the files that are in the root are probably lost forever :(

Search for a product called image recall that recovers lost data from memory sticks and usb pens etc. it's about £16 and comes on a disk so you can use it again and again.

Sorry but can't remember the name of that site that sells it, think my brain needs this product
