Hi,

I want to go away soon, and want to use my Samsung Galaxy as a modem. Is this easy? Thanks.

Very easy. Just setup phone as wifi hotspot and connect to it from laptop.

On HTC sense it's just start > settings > wireless & networks > portable Wi-FI hotspot settings. It can't be too different to that on Samsung's droid wrapper.

Are you talking tab or phone?

I've done it on my phone to save ridiculous hotel charges before, it's very easy but battery drains pretty quickly.

I can plug the phone in, as I'll have power - but just not sure how to get the phone and laptop talking.

The choices I have are:
Wi-fi settings
Bluetooth Settings
Tethering and portable hotspot
VPN settings
Mobile Networks.

I've tried the Tethering and portable hotspot setting, and turned on mobile AP. Not any luck yet - Possibly not the correct route to go down...

If you go to Settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile AP Settings, you just turn it on there.

Edit: just seen your post, not sure why it's not working for you :/

It should just work no issue.

Just set up portable hotspot and enter username & password and recognisable SSID. You should just see it and connect no problem over wireless from laptop.

If it doesn't work buy an HTC and or ditch your MAC ;-)

go from Tethering and portable hotspot. Should give you the option to do it USB or WiFi choose the Wi-Fi option its easier to configure.
