I'm about to start using some software that originally was set to do the usual parking off my server. But i am now experimenting with the idea that every 'parked' domain should in fact become a site, even if it is only a page. I was thinking this then had the ability to develop links, link pop, PR and therefore added value to the domain name. Anyone doing this already? If these are only 1 page domains, is this no better than parking?

..not to mention ppc (possibly google ads as i would no longer be running parked domains, but live sites) and affiliate links/banners on every domain ;)

Cheers i'll take a peek. I have a vps with unlimited domains already, and was looking to have some software that organised all the sites centrally. Ideally a hybrid between a parking system software (so i can still park domains if necessary) and mambo cms multisite! I can dream on...

No, but i'll talk to the guy with the parking software. Should be possible as all php/mysql...but the multisite part isn't even concrete with mambo yet. I know drupal has multisite built in.

What kind of domains do you specialise in? Shopping? Sport??

No specialist subjects. Some typos, expired traffic domains, adult, future gadget, finance, and the odd org.uks!

I have suggested to the coder that he might want to design his software into a component that would integrate with eg joomla (hacked for multisite)...best of all worlds then.

Your checklist should be:

- How are you going to seo the sites.

- How easily you can automate content.

- How you can create highly targetted content.

If you use a CMS system, does that still mean you will have to add content manually?

Have you thought about using XML feeds to populate a database and then driving your sites from the database?

Well the advantage with using something like joomla cms is that it is already fully developed. The seo is fine...mod rewrite so nice sef urls, built in header tags, keywords, titles, desc. It can take rss feeds, so content could be automated to keep it fresh in eyes of se's. But, to really score i think certain additional content pages would have to be written optimised for the right number of words/ keyword density etc etc... The sites would be driven from a mysql db, that is standard with the cms.

I think the beauty would be to have 1 installation to update, all the available OS modules/ components, google adsense on every page dropped in via a module, 1 central admin to control all sites, pages selected backend for whichever site, and a different template for each site if desired or keep a theme amongst the sites in a similar fashion to parking at the moment. All this for an infinite number of individual sites (although they would share the same IP/ server so interlinking wouldn't be advised)

Sounds a good idea. I too would like to develop my domains rather than park but thought the hosting would cost too much? I host a couple of sites with fasthosts but that equates to £3.99 pm per site or £50pm for a reseller account.
Can anyone suggest an affordable way of doing it? I have about 10 domains at present but it's a growing list.

I would go with the resller account, then you can have loads of domains. I currently have a vps for this purpose.

You can host much more cheaply than that and with better hosts too ... I'll send you a PM.

I'm happy with Fasthosts for my main sites. They aren't expensive, Have excellent control panel etc... and Their support are very good.
Just wanted something for my parked domains. A m8 I work with has offered me hosting at £20 pa per domain and as I don't have too many I may take him up on that. Thanks though :)

note that search engines may punish your rankings if all your sites link to the same IP - not tottaly sure if that was a rumour or fact?

I believe that would be the case if all sites were interlinked, but if they are not i see no reason why the sites would be penalised. ;)
