Using videos of youtube on your site?

Is it legal to use other peoples video clips on your own website if you supply a link back to its source? Or can you use it without linking back.

Also do you need to ask permission to each user on youtube to use the clip.
 
If the video allows you to share/embed it then they've effectively given permission for you to embed it. If they wanted it private or for their own use then you wouldnt be able to embed it.

If on the other hand you plan to download someones video and then make a video of your own with that clip..............thats very shady.

I quite often do it.

If writing a blog post for something, and a video adds value, then I embed it, using YouTubes embed link.

Prefer to use our own, but have never heard anyone complain that their videos are getting views.
