It's the golden question. I'm currently working with someone who is doing this type of outreach for me and I'm undecided which is the best way. Quite probably the answer of which is best will be different for every recipient...but the average best I dont know
Not sure I get the adage, do you mean that the main companies operating in the UK already have established websites? I was going to pitch it to them that the market is growing, as is the technology, and this is a fairly relevant and snappy domain that they could buy to stop others from doing so, would you approach it another way?

Woah you got that out of what i said , No bud just jesting.
But in my opinion it depends on the value you are pitching and whom your pitching too.
For example, if someone reached out to me and didnt state a price, id just assume they were seeking more than id be willing to pay and not even bother with it, like wise when people ask for offers on forums instead of giving a price range, 9 times out of 10 it will result in less interest (imo). Going back to emails, If an email mentioned the price from the outset, then I can instantly assess whether its worth entering a conversation, therefore if you don't get a response from an email with a price, you know one of two things.

There is the obvious caveat of emailing with a price and the price being a lot less than it's worth, or a lot more than the customer is prepared to pay and resulting in your scenario 1.; so I think I'd rather sell for less than have stone cold silence from the recipient! I will include prices in my future emails - reasonable ones!
I guess it depends on your strategy, personally not being a domainer I prefer to make 1 reasonable sale every year rather than loads of small ones so im more of a stubborn long haul kind of person, on the flip side there are guys here that make hundreds of £200 sales effectively and make much more than I ever will with domains.
From my experience it's always better to state a price, or at least a price range, saves getting involved with the "I'll give you £5 for it" time-wasters. If they reply to an email where there's a price stated, there's often a good chance a deal can be worked out.
