Website goes down through night

I have a website that used to make quite a few sales however over the past few months they have all but stopped.When i have been checking order each morning the site is down however an hour late about 7 am ish, it is back up and running. I have 2 trains of thought. Either my site has been hacked somehow and it shuts down through the night (when I tend to get my sales ) or my server is going down all the time. My friend has another site on the same server and his sales dont seem to of been affected. Any thoughts ?

Maybe that's when the server runs its backup or processes log files. Neither should take it down, but depending on the speed of your server and the amount of data involved, it is theoretically possible that it slows so much that it appears "down"...

Who is the host? Some of the cheaper hosts limit traffic. You say overnight is when you get orders, is this when you get a lot more traffic too?
Is it your server or a shared server?
But yeah I would more suspect its either back or the logs run.

One of my reseller accounts does backups about 6-7am and often not accessible during the early hours. Quite normal.

If it's consistanty happening at the same time then it's most likely processing logs/backup that's going a bit wrong. Is it your server? Check the load at the effected times.

I wouldnt say a backup making the server go off line normal!

I'll retract that comment then. Guess its just my experience.
