From the point of view of the seller, this is just sensible business practice. They are both strong domains and have the potential to be successful sites, they are probably on the backburner awaiting development, so if they are going to be sold off then the loss of a valuable profit generating domain has to be reflected in the price. Perhaps they are a little on the high side but that's probably because they don't really want to sell them because they know how much potential there is.

If it's frustrating for you, just develop a site with a similar name, earn the revenue, and then if you still feel it's worth it, buy the name from them later.
