Hi all,

I'm new to this and thought I'd start with .me prefixes. I may have completely wasted my money as I bought 10 straight off. My favourite is elvisfor.me - Domain Names Holding Page - lowcostnames.co.uk as there must be a big fan of the king out there! I hope to learn a lot reading posts and seeing what sells. Already fascinated. Look forward to any comments. Cheers, benjw

hi benjw welcome to AD.

as for .me i quite like them, but not when used in the way you have for "elvisfor.me" i just see it as "elvisfor" which i dont like.
but please dont take it personaly its just my opinion;)

Thanks

Hi boxerdog,

Thanks - I can see what you mean. I think I'll have to test the water with these - lots to learn and probably lose in the short term. Probably should have joined this before spending my money but nothing ventured...!

yer have a good look around here theres a load of info and help.
dont be afraid to ask any questions as well most on here are more than happy to help.

I think .me have good potential and I have a few that I am very pleased with, but you need to do your homework first to know which ones are worth buying (cough ... Google AdWords EPC rates ... cough).

Hi accelerator,

Thanks - I think I'm going to find out a lot - have visited WebRef.eu already. A total beginner here! Cheers, benjw

.me rocks.

It has broken records at godaddy.com when it was launched.

Things are being mentioned on top domain sites like sedo.com and dnjournal.com abt .me

Some .me domains have been sold of a big prices at the initial auction.

.me does not rock for me, not even a gentle sway. What happened to .im being the 'personal' domain and the next big thing? :)

As I posted in a similar thread, If I was going to spend some money on aquiring , developing and promoting a domain I would prefer to do it via a name with Nominet in the UK than someone in Montenegro.

Likewise every new extension has 'top dollar' sales that either turn out to be rubbish or hype based cash-down-drain.

Any new domainer will probably be sucked in and the timing of launches can be no coincidence. Personally I would suggest if you are new to domains to keep your wallet closed and read read then read some more :)

There is space to make cash in new releases, but most of that is made off those who falsely believe they are 'landrushing' for gain in a few years time. Be careful!

What happened to .IM ?
I donno. It just passed by like other TLDS.

.ME stands out. Nobody cares if it's Montenegro or some other country it's cool because it's 'ME'.
I think it comes second only to .com
if you can look at a domain once and just remmeber it later than that domain is worth its value.

If you can grab a good .me then i guess it would be even better than a dot com.

What domain would you remember ?
1. Treat.me or Get-Your-Treatment-done.com
2. Hug.me or iwannabighug.com

Not really comparing .com or .me here but i certainly feel .me has the potential.

GAUHAR KHAN.

.im does not work when said aloud, .me does, it's as simple as that, and if a domain works when said aloud, it's good for advertising, and that's good for domain value. .me is a very good extension for certain names IMO, and what's wrong with Montenegro anyway, I'm sure it's a very nice country!!

See .me in a couple of years ;)

I do care as I believe Montenegrin's only declared independance in 2006. As I said, trading fine, but would anyone seriously build a business on there?

I think it comes second only to .com

Wow. Feel free to explain why I (and other readers) should take your thoughts seriously? Feel free to include your domain history :)

If you can grab a good .me then i guess it would be even better than a dot com.

Let me guess, you own a few me's :)

I wish i had got see.me :)

What has country's independence got anything to do with owning a .me domain ?
You dont actually have to go there you know :)

They should not actually. They should go to top domain sites and find out the truth themselves.

Let me guess, you own a few me's
Ya i do :)
I also do have .com and .net and .info, .be, .es etc

Sorry if any comments were rude or wrong :)

Best Regards.

The only truth at the moment is that it is a new extension released with domainers as the target - ie. 'premium' sell offs at the TRAFFIC (does anyone know what that stands for?) conference. There is no verifiable sales data of the kind that can give solid information to domainers, they can only go by previous similar launches and reflect on how they perform.

All it needs is a Rick 'Have a Nice Day' Schwartz to be the beacon for all new domainers and fork out £100k on flowers4.me and everyone is a winner.

I know 'domain investing' is a term used, but really it is only investing when returns are solid, up to that point it is speculation.

As for 'Nobody cares if it's Montenegro or some other country and the like, people do and being in the wrong country can affect values and rights to own names either by legal jurisdiction or general stability.

Feel free to line up a horrible hat for me to eat if it becomes second to .com... :)

TRAFFIC (does anyone know what that stands for?)

I seem to recall you asking that at least once before :)

Targetted Redirects And Financial Fulfillment Internet Conference

*shudder*

Best wishes,

Hi Benj

I am 6 months down the road into Domaining and my advice is as good as anyones who is 6 months into it. I think .com is the premium name currently and .me may come into its own in years to come as they become more scarce, i think they will be hard to turn a profit now but as slow burners could work. Look at what works for .com now and think were .me could be in 3-5 years down the road. I think .co.uk is a safer bet - cheap to buy up and still opportunities away from the drop catch market still.

Good luck

Gib

.me :)

Hi,
I went O.T.T. and registered about 30 .me domains on the first day they were available to the public.
Beware with .me registration, you can't get a refund even if you change your mind the next day, ...I found out the hard way. Best thing to do... as the other domainer recommended is to keep your wallet closed and do your research!

I've just managed to recoup nearly half my costs of the 30 or so I registered by selling just 4 of them!
(the ones I sold are of the type ****able.me )
It's a far better ending than .im as in English, 'i'm' only makes grammatical sense at the start of a phrase not the end.
