Ok, a little experiment. Having a bit of a discussion with a potential purchaser of a domain which I consider generic, he thinks its non-generic.

So, considering the wealth of experience on here...

What's a generic domain?
What's a descriptive domain?
Is there a difference between generic & descriptive
What's a non-generic domain.

And an example for each of the 3 types...

Are there other types?

A good start:

www.google.co.uk/search?q=define:generic

Adjective:
Characteristic of or relating to a class or group; not specific: "chèvre is a generic term for all goat's milk cheese".

Noun:
A product having no brand name or registered trademark.

Synonyms:
general - common - universal

www.google.co.uk/search?q=define:descriptive

1. Serving or seeking to describe

2. (of an adjective) Assigning a quality rather than restricting the application of the expression modified, e.g., blue as distinct from few

3. Describing or classifying without expressing feelings or judging

4. Denoting or relating to an approach to language analysis that describes accents, forms, structures, and usage without making value judgments

'Generic' and 'Descriptives' are both (Safe) Peas in the same (Safe) pod.

However, "non generic descriptives" Can cover a multitude of sin - So Which do you want to start with ?

What's a generic domain - sofas.co.uk
What's a descriptive domain - redsofas.co.uk
What's a non-generic domain - cheapredsofas4u.co.uk
