What is the best invention in the last 10 years

For me it has to be the smart phone. Being able to check my emails and go online when i'm on the move is priceless.

How about you, Frank?

Sky Digital, so easy to use compared to trying to set your video timer 12 years ago...... :(

That was a nightmare, "oh my god I have recorded the wrong channel",

" sorry dad, promise I ain't into any of that"

"Son go to your room....." :D

YouTube (if you can call it an invention), as I think it's added a dimension to how the web is used - ie even technophobes can self publish video effortlessly - like a video version of the printing press..

If you'd said the last 100 years I'd have given a very different answer of course... but there doesn't appear to be that many qualifying things since 2000 (that I can think of anyway)...

Hybrid cars maybe? Even the Dyson vacuum cleaner was in the 80s / 90s...

I am going to have to agree with Ty here on YouTube. It entertains millions for hours every day.

The Large Hadron Collider

Will address some of the most fundamental questions of physics

getting internet on a phone, brilliant for passing time when away

they've been building for past 20 odd years though +
can't count that
although great choice, and i agree
they created a mini big bang other day and surprised how little press it got

in terms of inventions, i think wordpress is pretty amazing :D

The V Slice, great for cutting up vegetables into cool shapes. Beats YouTube hands down. ;)

er, the human genome project. Or rather the way it was sequenced that enabled it to be done in a reasonable time.

best

2002—IEEE 802.16
The geniuses at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers publish a wireless metropolitan area network standard that functions like Wi-Fi on steroids. An 802.16 antenna can transmit Internet access up to a 30-mile radius at speeds comparable to DSL and cable broadband. When it all shakes out, 802.16 could end up launching developing nations into the digital age by eliminating the need for wired telecommunications infrastructure.

DNA sequencing and more specifically, sequencing of the human genome (a draft sequence of the human genome was published in 2001)

Edit: 'Disruptive' beat me to it.

What is interesting is figuring out what might be next? Thats what I'm interested in...

Some postulated futures:

1. Personalized medicine.
2. Point of access health care radicalized.
3. Electric cars commonplace.

On a purely personal pleasure level - i'll go with digital radio oh and iplayer/itunes.

did any here get those free iplay token on bottles of Becks - I ended up with 60

Tesco = 34p a bottle (275ml) with a free 99p max iplay code on each bottle value to march 2011 - now that was a good deal

The biggest advance has to be in the technological improvements in modern LCD screens - you don't notice the differences inside, you just notice they're bigger, clearer, and more affordable. Only 20 years ago I was helping to work on producing a cutting edge ten inch square B&W LCD ...

The thing with the potential power to influence all our lives is the new monomolecular layer form of carbon - we'll have to wait and see.

Google - has improved the way we find things and has made many people rich apart from me :( .

Google is rubbish compared to ten years ago, and even then I preferred HotBot and Northern Light.

When I want real info, I'm using DuckDuckGo and Yandex (and no annoying ads). Bekkle can also be useful.
Depends what you're looking for ...
