when to submit new site to search engines?

I registered a new domain yesterday for an info site with links to products. As yet I have no real content.

So my question is do I stick on some basic text and get submitted to search engines ASAP, or just wait until I have content. My thoughts are to at least submit right away just to save time and get it indexed sooner?

What are your thoughts.

Just my thought but, I don't ever submit domains to search engines. Anyone else not bother?

I prefer to add a post about it to another similar site or just leave it for WordPress to notify them with "XML sitemap" plugin.

I think you need to think about your visitors before the search engines. What's the point in being listed when visitors are going to stay on the page for just a second and then bounce because you have nothing of interest on your site yet? You wouldn't open a restaurant before you've bought any food.

You can get your pages indexed straight away by linking to them from a site that gets crawled frequently, like Twitter or a very active forum. If you pick the right link, you'll only be waiting an hour or so to get indexed, sometimes even less.

Sort out your design and content before you start thinking about search engines.

There is no point submitting a domain with no content.

• Register your website in Google Webmaster Tools (GWT).
• Create a website sitemap
• Register your sitemap in GWT under Site Configuration ==> sitemaps
• When you add content to your website update your sitemap

Google will then be aware of your webpages as you create them and will crawl them in a reasonable time - usually within 48 hours or so.

I never bother using the submit site to multiple search engines facilities around thesedays like I used to yonks ago (you know the sites that offer multiple submissions, used muchly years ago).

I find though that if you have Google Adsense on a new site, the Google and Yahoo bots hit you almost straight away, it seems to be faster.

I do though however sometimes manually add a URL to Google though, no more though and use webmaster tools.

Certainly you don't want to do this until you're complete and IMO there's nothing worse than a site that's empty or with an 'under construction' message (how 1995!) or with a silly 'coming soon' screen.

I block search engines until a site is complete, whether that's using Wordpress or via a (x)html template.

Submitting to search engines help a lot, if you are serious about developing your domain into a website. Submit as early as you can, it will take for search engines few days to crawl and they will keep crawling every few days.

My personal view on it is let Google find your site even if it has no content on it. You can build the site in the open then Google can see it growing and the bot makes more frequent trips to your site so not to miss new stuff being updated.

But with the caveat, make sure you have planned your site out. Google doesn't want to see url's and the next they have been deleted. So make sure you have your structure set out before you Google see's it.

That's my personal view on it and seems to work for me. Google loves updates..... Of course don't go daft and create 10,000 empty pages though because you will find them later. Only talking about category headers and product categories where you will add sub pages later.

I just install google analytics on the site, then I add my site to the google webmaster area. You can fetch as googlebot from there. It tends to appear in with index within a couple of days, in my experience anyway.

I find that new sites do badly on Google for the first 4-5 months (on average for local sites); therefore I would choose the keywords for your home page -check out Google Adowrds Keyword Tool for what keywords are commonly searched for - and then write some basic text, maybe add a picture or 2 and your phone number, with a "site coming soon" notice at the bottom.

That way, your site is ageing and - if customers do find you - they also get info about your company and your phone no.

Like everyone else said, don't submit your site - just create some backlinks.

The sooner google knows about it, the sooner you'll be able to start throwing links at it...

Don't expect anything magical to happen in the first 6 months and do your keyword research on long tails to ensure url formats are correct across the entire site.

Incorrect.

Infact, sometimes getting a weak site indexed too quickly can cause you harm - I have seen sites moved to bottom of page 4-5 just because there was no real contnt on them, and getting the site out of ther is harder then getting a site indexed with nice content - you would probably benefit from the "reverse sandbox" where google give some priority to newish sites for a short while if they seem decent enough.

well adding the website will not give you any fruit. You first need to consider making back links. If you have created the back links on platforms that are frequently crawled by search engines then you don`t need to add manually to search engines, Crawlers will pick you website.

back links are most important and second priority is for the contents on the website.

Google is actually not the only search engine. There are other search engines like Yahoo, Bing, Altavista, Ask etc that usually takes time to re-crawl your website. So it is still important that you submit your website to search engines but make sure it has already contents because it will take time before the SE's update the contents of your site once they crawled it. The recommended is you submit your site once a month but make sure it has new contents or it has contents that you have edited.

Yahoo , msn and most of the search engines usually more or less depends on google. If you are going good in google then, chances are you will be in better position in other search engines.

You better go for submitting the website to high rank directories and submit articles as many as you can. This will made you website visible in many other search engines.
