Back in the late nineties I discovered domain names, and looking back I had little idea what I was doing. I'd never heard of ICANN or Nominet. I just discovered Network Solutions and started looking for available domain names there. Looking back, I made some mistakes, because I had no idea of value.

I remember registering LondonOffices.com about 2000 or 2001, but a few years later someone offered me a couple of hundred quid and I sold it.

One of my worst mistakes was believing in the integrity of the domain name system. When some of the directors of Afilias fraudulently registered .info names with fake trademarks in their own .info release, I was deeply disillusioned. That deepened as I tried to get ICANN to intervene (which under pressure they did in the end) but it became clear that ICANN and the big registrars had an incestuous relationship.

Can anyone else remember early mistakes they made when they just started in domains?
