when your site bounces around google...

where do you find it ends up?

in my experience those sites that do bounce around follow something like this pattern:

stage 1) bounce between page 1, page 3, page 1, page 3, page 1, spending a few hours or perhaps a day at each position. page 3 is just picked at random, could be any page. whats important is that the bounce always seems to be between 2 set positions.

stage 2) after a few days the site finally ends up on page 3, before starting a slow crawl up the rankings over a period of weeks and months.

i'd love to hear other peoples thoughts. and do you find its only some of your sites that experience this? for me, some sites just seem to hit their 'natural' position straight away.

I've only ever had one site bounce around, and it settled very quickly when I removed the majority of affiliate links.

I must admit, i've had a mixture of sites bounce around google but usually on new domains. They usually start out at page 2-3 then end up off the face of the earth until i start any SEO then it usually takes me 6-12 months to get them to rank properly. Maybe it's the slowness of my SEO!!!

then today I see a user on here selling sites with NO BACKLINKS and half of the sites are on page 1 google! how!!!?

I wonder if big g checks whois data and gives you a quality score. mine must be low if that was the case!

I usually finish development of affiliate sites within a week of registering a domain and then I leave it stew. Sites then start to rank within the first couple of pages around 9-12 months. I've always included affiliate links right from the outset so sites still rank well eventually.
