Which of these is better in your opinion?

I've come across a search term (only gets 1000 or so searches each month though) that currently is FTR in all extensions. Within the search term, "uk" is in it, so what I want to ask is, which is better (easier to rank) in your opinion:

1. Coolshopsuk.com
2. Coolshopsuk.co.uk

I'm thinking the .com would be better, but am I right?

Yeah, to be honest I probably won't buy both since it'll just be a site with a few articles about a certain topic.

I know that I probably should, but I have enough domains to pay for to renew at the moment!

- Which search engine(s) do you want it to rank it in?
- Do you see yourself potentially ever selling the site and/or domain?

I'd probably go for the .co.uk

I get what everyone else is saying - if I were going to be building a brand then I'd go for .com, but as looks to be for a content will affiliate / adsense earnings. So from a Search Engine point of view it'll make no difference.

A .co.uk will be ever so slightly cheaper, can resell in 60 days if you choose to, can Market it in the, more read, UK section of Acorn - and if I were to think from a search engine for the UK market, I may favour a .co.uk (even if ending in UK) with all other things being equal

Will be trying to rank in the UK only (all searches are from the UK)

Google, I'd say it rank on page 1 on Bing or whatever without any link building but as you know traffic won't be much.

Don't think I'll ever sell it really, unless I decide to get out of IM / can't afford to keep renewing domains etc.


I think the .com sounds better and so on since UK is already in the domain, but then again I'm worried that google would prefer a .co.uk. Saying that, google seems to rank .coms well even on Google UK.

It's an impossible question to answer really, but just wanted some opinions

Appreciate your views, I was thinking about going for the .co.uk since it'll be a tiny bit cheaper too. Don't mind about the 60 days since if I am going to sell it it'll be a year or two down the line.

I must admit I don't like co.uk that contain the word 'uk'. I think the keyword in co.uk and the keyword+uk in .com are close. In your case I would take the .com any day.

Yeah, to me it looks almost spammy to have uk in the domain and using a .co.uk extension.

Godaddy had a few offers on .com recently $4.95 google should point you to the promos I'd defo take both if I were you. Surely the plan has got to be to make more than reg fee if not what's the point in regging in the first place.

For the last few .coms/orgs that I've registered with godaddy I got them for $1.49 There's always discounts though, usually not as good as that though.

both are great...but personally i would say - go for .com.... .com is always king i guess....

I would go for the .com for several reasons:

1. As RobM says, it doesn't look right having 'UK' in the domain with a .uk extension.
2. Even if you are targetting UK traffic, it doesn't hurt to get traffic from other countries.
3. If you do decide to resell, I think it would have a greater potential to be sold to more interested buyers, not just in the UK.

I agree with what others have said about the reasons to go for .com, it's def less spammy sounding

alternatively if you want a co.uk why not coolukshops.co.uk? Personally I think in this instance the .co.uk doesnt sound quite as bad simply because the 'uk' part is sandwiched in the middle of the domain rather than being at the end nearer the extension....it's obviously a subjective preference though

EDIT: Actually ignore me, I've just re-read the OP and realised the original phrase had exacts, in that case I guess you're better with the .com
