Hi All

I have recently started using Instagram under a personal account for a bit of passive marketing (it let's you give a url in your profile).

I think I have to say another business mistake of mine was not to start using Instagram earlier, it is now absolutely massive. As I like photography, I also find it quite fun.

I've been looking at traffic to my site and whilst I don't see any visits from Instagram yet, I think that's probably because I only have 15 followers so far. I do have faith in the platform and reckon it will prove useful, and anyway, every little helps right?

Also, it's fun following celebs, right?

Anyone? Let's get some discussion going here. Gotta say I love Instagram now.

From my personal experience, these are much better than instagram for a traffic boost.

twitter
pinterest

It's a complete waste of time.

How can Instagram be a complete waste of time? With the right niche and the right amount of traffic to the images it could make you a lot of money, just like any other form of social media.

Agree with you here, there is someone in one of my niches who doesn't even run a website, they do all their affiliate marketing from twitter alone! posting relevant ads to their followers every few hours, and they have been doing this for a long time now! Lets face it, they wouldn't do it if it wasn't working for them.

These methods can be replicated over and over again for different niches.

I am seeing more and more shops creating IG profiles. If you get yourself recognised as an "easy follower" you will get them spamming you from a list so IG may have to introduce measures to control this at some point as it is annoying.

I use IG a lot and am also trying driving traffic, but in both directions, IG to my site and site to IG followers.

IG also can be pulled as a feed into your Wordpress ite for example so look at integrations there.

Exactly. I am trying to use Twitter a lot more for @lowpricesuk. The problem I have is that a price comparison site is not something most people will leap to follow, and really I need to diversify into niche Twitter accounts. I've found it easier to get followers on my personal account @accx because that's more niche on tech/startups/entrepreneur stuff. I am now a big fan of social media, it saves a lot of site maintenance. I can see why some folks just use Twitter alone.

Do you use hashtags that suit your tweets? that way your tweet will show up for anyone searching twitter..

You could also be cheeky and tag some of your more popular followers in tweets that you think they may find useful, that way their followers will see it also ;) just use the @ to tag them ;)

I love a good hashtag me! I use them a fair bit.

I'm not sure followers will now see @ replies to popular followers now, because there's a relatively new "Tweets & Replies" tab, so they'll only see it if they're looking at this tab won't they??

I think the trouble with social media is you really need to know what you're doing otherwise it's a waste of time

Instagram especially seems like something you really need the right niche and an expertise to use it effectively

Yes, I'm sure some niches work better than others, but everyone is free to choose their niche.

Hmm I don't think they are..

I think most people are pretty locked into the industry(s) they're already doing.

That's fine if their business model is working. However, if something isn't working, then pivot and change your niche.

What's your niche that's working?

Domains?

Web Design?

Domaining and affiliate marketing at the moment. I've also just started a new project where I hope to take paid advertising directly. You?

I'm cornering the 89p ready meals market.

May the best man win!!!

Also, it's fair to say I'm not actually marketing a niche yet on Instagram, I just have my personal ac where I hope people will have a look and then perhaps visit LowPrices.co.uk, but what I am saying is that for a number of niches, I think Instagram will get you good traffic, e.g. fashion, fitness, health, cooking, healthy eating, photography, lifestyle and homeware.
