Who pays the transfer fee?

I've just recently sold a domain name and would like to know who generally pays the transfer fee? Is it best practice for the seller to pay? Or the buyer?

Or is it something to discuss when negotiating payment?

Generally, the buyer always pays for the transfer, unless it's agreed during the sale that you'll pay for it, but that will depend on the price you're selling for, if it's a low priced name for £30, you wouldn't want to be paying for the transfer :)

I nearly always pay for the transfer when selling to end users. I don't even mention any fee etc, just say that once the invoice has been paid I will transfer the domain immediately.

I'd rather remove any possible obstacle to a buyer backing out or delaying the process with questions about who Nominet are, why do they have to pay a fee etc. It's £12, it hardly breaks the bank on a decent sale.

Of course, it's a different story for lower price domains.
