Why was my post deleted?

I presume as Nominet dont release that info for public use anymore that also offering it would be frowned upon by the powers that be. Maybe Nom requested it be removed.

even if it was deleted because it contained off topic porn - its still respectful to send a PM or something to explain why

Not exactly a zone file , but agreed no point getting Admin into possible trouble.

I don't mind you talking about our zone files. I do hope that we are not perceived as being so touchy that we get upset about people discussing things like that. There must have been more to it

I removed the zone file post as i am protecting AcornDomains. If you have a problem with this please take it up with admin.

I did send you a message explaining this.

what about offering them for download?

Thanks Paul, I'm not sure a Top Level zone file is much of an issue. It didn't have any domains in it from what I saw.

Glad to hear this isnt a taboo subject Jay, maybe you can tell us more about it.

I take it this is the 3 year old jobbie that's been doing the rounds since time began?....I remember scanning the entire file against overture, that was fun :???:

As you probably know, almost all of our registrations are at the third level, so mostly under co.uk but some under org.uk and so on. See

Registrations

As a result the .uk zone file contains very little. Just the SLDs and the very few registrations at the second level.

I have taken a view that this does not need protecting in the same way as the SLD zone files and so we make it open to public transfer. You can do it yourself with the command

dig @ns1.nic.uk uk axfr

but I do reserve the right to remove this access if people do it too much. Given that this file very rarely changes (about twice a year when we change a nameserver address or something) then there should be no need to download it regularly.

The co.uk and other zone files though are definitely not available.
