Windows 7

The RC1 of Windows 7 leaked onto P2P a few days ago ahead of a full "release" by MS on May 5.

Has anyone tried it, or tried any of the beta versions? All the comments I've seen so far rate it much better than Vista.

I'm currently in the process of upgrading from Vista on my main machine. Never done an upgrade before, always gone for full clean install but couldn't be bothered with the re-installs of Office, Creative Suite etc.

Upgrade has taken about 4 hours so far, including downloading SP1 for Vista which I didn't realise I was missing, and WIndows 7 wouldn't install without it :x

Ive been running Win 7 beta for a month or so. Only problem I had was running 3 way SLI would take a number of attempts to get into. Probs more a nvidia driver issue though.

I did d/l RC1 last night, but I think it was 32 bit. Dont think I will bother to install it as my beta is fine tbh.

I only installed win7 to tie me over to I get ubuntu-studio jaunty working correctly with my sextuplets.

Well it's up and running now, all drivers installed fine, a couple of gadgets on the sidebar don't quite look right but not done a proper re-boot yet.

Seems to be using less RAM resources when idling which is nice, all apps run fine. Will have to see if it runs any faster.

Im pretty sure win7 is not a memory hog. My ram is a bit overkill, triple channel ddr3 6gb 1600 gets top score of 7.9 in the windows index. Dosent get any workout
