It really does amuse me with some of the dreadfully written (automated?) spam that some of my Wordpress based blogs receive, lol.

I would imagine some of it is automated and some written by those who don't speak/write English as a first language (using online translation services?).

Here's a recent one:

I apperceive i am a small away topic, but i just funds to say i adulation the blueprint of the blog. i am new in the direction of blogegine platform, so any tips on accepting my web page analytic good can be appreciated.

Another:

I did a film once that I was killed in. It was a painful, horrifying day. It was a wonderful day from the standpoint of acting, but I was a wreck otherwise.

LOL! They were killed, not surprisingly it was a bad day. ;)

Any other good examples?!

I think one of my blogs must have ended on a spam list of some kind because I went from receiving only genuine messages, to getting hundreds of spammy messages each day. In the end I just turned the commets off because it was getting out of control. I wouldn't have thought constantly spamming comments would be a good strategy but they don't seem to let up, so it must be working for someone, haha.

Askimet just about works for me.
Probably stops about 99% of the fake / automated comments.

I think a lot of the wordpress, vbulletin spam etc is coming from amateurs nowadays, and is no longer being done by organised spammers. Simple programs like xrumer and scrapebox or SEnuke etc allow the spotty teenagers to ruin legitimate sites. All these programs are freely available on torrent sites. I closed my forum on www.legalisecannabis.co.uk because of the amount of spam registrations. These bots can easily crack recaptcha.
