Good afternoon,

Is there a general rule of thumb when you are looking to establish what a company might be paying for keywords with G?

Example; before buying a domain I will check G Adwords to see number of exacts and approx. CPC, then I will look on G to see companies who pay for advertising on those related keywords.

This is where my trail runs a bit cold. I would like to understand more about the companies keyword advertising costs so I can use it to my benefit when approaching to discuss the merits of the domain I am selling.

Any thoughts or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Tks.

mmmm, tumbleweeds.....

so if I own RedLaceKnickers(dot)com
there are 10,000 exact searches per month on google
the average CPC is £0.50
there are 10 companies who pay for sponsored links

its not possible to guesstimate what each might be paying per month for the keywords red lace knickers?

thought there might be a general rule of thumb on %?

thoughts appreciated

I doubt you can work out what they pay but you can work out numbers another way.

Position#1 gets 30-40% of all clicks so being top would mean 3-4000 clicks at 50p each so a #1 ranking is equal to an Adwords spend of £1500-£2000 per month.

There are many variables and it would be fairly easy to pick apart with click through rate variables etc but at least it gives you something to start with.

Thanks for your post Boxfish. I assumed it wouldn't be straightforward nor a science. Thanks again.

Rigg - You could try using http://www.keywordspy.co.uk

The site gives PPC Keyword details for the site you search for. It also provides an ROI for each Keyword...although you may need to read the explanations for each field to fully understand it!

(Disclaimer! - I'm in no way associated witht he above site, have used it in the past for research)

I use SEMRush;

Whilst its not 100% accurate, it's pretty good and fast.
It worked well enough on Thursday gone to impress a potential client.

20% out on a £Large/k monthly spend.
