How do I go about installing WP, I have read up about it using something called fantastico but on my Evo hosting there's no mention of any fantastico..?

I've never used WP before and know nothing about PHP, but would like to get some sites up pretty quickly

Just had a look for you, Evo Hosting have something called Installatron instead of Fantastico, that will probably work the same, they have 130 1-click installations, look here:

http://www.evohosting.co.uk/free-scripts

That's all their scripts, scroll to the bottom under the heading Blogs and they provide these including WordPress and WordPress MU:

http://www.evohosting.co.uk/free-scripts/category/blogs

If it's pretty much the same as Fantastico, login to your hosts control, panel, you'll probably see the 1-click icon there, click that and then look for the blogs section on the next page, click that and choose WordPress, it'll probably say something like "new installation".

Choose the domain name from the drop down list that you want to install it on, click new installation or whatever it says on Installatron, add the password/username you want to use and click submit, it will then install it for you.

Then go to your domain, say www.xxxxx.co.uk for example, it should have a default WordPress theme on the page and a login link, click that and use the username/password you set during the installation, that takes you to your WordPress control panel where you can upload new themes etc

If for any reason there's no default theme to login from at www.xxxxx.co.uk then go to www.xxxxx.co.uk/wp-login.php to login to your WordPress control panel for that domain.

The great thing about WP is that the learning curve is not too steep nor long.
Once you have got to grips with it you will be banging out sites like there's no tomorrow.

Bear in mind, most often each theme template will have different features and the more advanced ones are based on frameworks which often require a good understanding of their structure for you to utilise them to max advantage.

youtube offers loads of tutorials for WP so if you get stuck try there for an answer.

good luck

Cheers for the replies. That was more than clear, I'll have a pop at it in a bit. I can do a bit of xhtml and css so I figure it shouldn't take too long to get to grips with. I didn't even think to try youtube, think my brain clocked off at about 2pm today lol

Managed to set it up quite easily, the posts were spot on thanks. Editing the templates is a nightmare though.. all the css is one huge block with no spaces between it. Are all the templates like that or is each different?

Also, I'm trying to change the header background but it doesn't want to work. In the css the background is listed as (images/bg-header.png). I can't find an images folder anywhere in the directory for that domain, is it hidden somewhere? I tried creating a new folder where I would normally put the images folder and still no joy..?

The images folder will be in the theme file e.g.
wp-content/themes/theme-name/images/

Wordpress 3.0 has a background upload feature, under the apperance tab you might be able to see an item called background. If not then your theme doesn't accept it BUT you can add it by adding the following line to the functions.php file.

Code:
add_custom_background();

No more messing uploading images via ftp :)

The css is changeable, it depends on how the developer coded it. It could have been minified hence the one line.

Thanks. In the end I changed theme to one with an 'edit header' option on cpanel. It also had far more uniformly layed out css, which was nice lol.

I'm not really taken with wordpress at all at the moment, I need to play with it more to get the hang of it I guess. But it currently takes me aslong to set up a WP home page as it does to type one out in HTML Kit and it seems alot less enjoyable..
