I caught a domain last month.

Within hours, I'd had an email asking if it was for sale. I replied saying I had plans for it (which I do) but if they wanted to make an offer, I'd consider it.

They reply saying they had agreed to buy it from the previous owner for £xx but that they mistakenly let it drop before the sale went through. They also said if I had plans, it didn't matter and they would choose a different name.

So I left it at that and though nothing more about it..... until today!

I get this phone call from a guy who says his wife had enquired about it and I hadn't given her a price. I tell him what her last email said, he asks what sort of price I'd want, I say at least 4 figures and he starts ranting on that "you guys" are scourge on society etc etc etc and that over in the US domains are $200 (which confused me a bit!)

I politely pointed out that I had reg'd the domain and had plans for it, but that's what I'd want if I was to sell it. Don't know if he was expecting me to turn round and say go on then, have it for £10!!!

What a nice way to spend my 30th Birthday

Is the complaint well thought out and watertight, or is it a load of balls??

Without wanting to jinx things, its not a good complaint. They do have rights, however the only attempt at proving abuse is a load of cr@p.

Also, I consistently stated I had plans to use it, but in their submission they include an email they sent to nominet saying I was "trying to sell it for a 4 figure sum!"

Clearly proof positive of your intentions, you might as well give up now

For all they know, you might not respond, so it's always worth it for a complainant to be a bit selective in what they submit.

Good luck with it.
