Anyone else getting fed up with the ads that are now all over YouTube?

First you get a huge banner ad when you get to the site, and now you have to site a watch a count down timer with an ad playing before you can view content.

Half the time I can't be bothered (since I'm probably only following a link to a funny video of someone falling over) to wait and close it to go do something more worthwhile.

Now they are are introducing "pay per view" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22474715

Good ole Google, kill a good site with more and more adverts.

"Youtube" is now "Adtube"

Yahoo do this too and damn annoying especially as you said, you're not too fussed about the content either.

Although on Yahoo you HAVE to watch a 30 second advert (no option to skip like you can on YouTube) before watching your clip - sometimes the advert is longer than the damn clip!

Trouble is if it continues they will start becoming ghost towns - especially if they start enforcing the adverts and can't skip!

The bit that annoys me is you often get the same ad over and over again. What is it about advertisers - If I didn't click it when it was 1st presented then I'm not going to click it however many times they show it!

yep, hate it

worst offenders channel 4 and vevo music channel
where ch4 has 4 adverts lasting 20 seconds+ each
did once and had to watch ads then bloody video wouldnt load

I simply dont visit their channels now

It will get worse as youtube is charging for channel owners now

It used to be good but Googles greed killed it. I wouldn't mind so much if it was just the little banner ones you could X shut but watching a full add first just sucks!

I get the same advert 95% of the time, pisses me right off.

I also get annoyed but to be fair, somebody has to pay for the bandwidth and if it's not by showing us adverts how else can it be done.

How was YouTube funded before Google bought it?

The bandwidth does need paying for, but showing the same ad over and over again to someone who's not interested in the product is not really in the best interests of the advertiser - I get miffed at getting irrelevant adverts, this creates a negative impression of the product, the advertiser gets to pay for this and Google take the profits, I don't see many winners in this!

Google have moved from an idealistic web company to a corporation listed on the stock exchange who have a legal duty to act in the best interests of their shareholders.

Sadly I think we're going to see them showing more and more commercial intent to the detriment of the experience.

I'm sure there must be other ways they can increase their earnings without smothering everything in ads, making people pay to watch videos, etc.

Making people pay to watch videos? Or charging people to have a "channel"? I'd definitely stop using it then. That would be really crap. Members submit a lot of their own videos and make the site what it is and google reap the rewards with very little effort. I don't think the band with will be that costly. I'm sure the money made on ads far out weigh the cost. They could probably just show 1 add in every 100 videos to cover the cot in bandwidth.

The same reason people who sell newspapers and magazines don't just walk round handing out their stuff for free.

The difference between newspapers are that newspapers still need to pay writers, researchers, editors, delivery the cost of printing, equipment, materials now compare that to YouTube? The viewers post the videos, replies etc.. don't get me wrong YouTube will cost a fair bit to run but with all these ads it must be making a killing and like others have said its turning into a bit of an ad fest.

Plus call me a cheapskate but I don't buy newspapers often. I just catch up with news on the tv or BBC or CNN news app on my phone.

it is overload on most pages now, because I view the BBC website from a foreign IP there is ads everywhere....and most unethical place i have seen is on my kids kindles....wow that is endless, strategically positioned also, if i built a site and put ads close to tabs or dropdown menu's it refuses to resolve...how can Amazon have the right to position ads millimetres away from the opening page tab, obviously you touch the ads about 1 in 3 (and my daughters hands are tiny)

actually there's a lot of free newspapers and magazines and supplements that are free, exactly because they are overloaded with ads

all you can do is vote with your feet, which I have done, most powerful thing you have

I sacked the telly years ago, save money and time, precious

I havea tv set purely to watch dvds when I choose and when I fancy a film rather than be broadcast at

I was visiting my dad the other day, he was watching the cricket, one day on itv4
after every over there was a commercial break, it was turning my brain to jelly lol

95% (and I'm being generous) of newspapers are utter drivel and crap, filled with ads and one paragraph 'articles'

arternative news sites and bloggers asre far more interesting and free and usually devoid of ads as they are passionate about what they write about, and usually knowledgable

Exactly - this type if advertising is old school and I'm sure quite ineffective. How many people do you know click on the videos or ads?? But guess many of these are doing so for brand awareness / re-awarness rather than prompting a direct purchase.

G have options but this is the most obtrusive, and counter-productive (in terms of negativity) for their advertiser. It's a lose for consumer, lose for advertiser - and only G (and the others) win.

There is enough content now through apps, blogs and all sorts of other places which run sponsored content, or well placed ads (for everyone involved) doing a good job.

G will become as disliked as Apple!

Sad day when G listed - a company that could quite literally have created something never seen before, and create opportunities for the world over, from large corporations to the man on the street. It's a shame.

The problem is Google are making money from the ads, with a small portion going to the video creators, the people making the videos should have the option to charge for their content, why shouldn't they?

At the end of the day, if anyone of us owned YouTube it would be covered with adverts as it is, and we would be sitting counting our money. Given the chance we would all be doing exactly the same.

I very rarely watch anything 'live' any more; if I can't fast forward through ads it's a waste of my time :p

There's a show I watch that's billed as 2 hours long - after fast forwarding through the ads and presenter filler rubbish I can watch it in about 40 mins.

Apple is actually more liked than Google ;) http://experiencematters.wordpress....r-score-and-market-share-for-60-tech-vendors/
