Anyone had any problems getting the zone files access from verisign? I've sent 3 faxes and emailed them twice and get no response!
Anywhere else to get them from?

The zone files in DRT now seem to work, I downloaded the .net file a few days ago. DRT also has a filter that will extract the domain names from the zone file and add the extension of your choice to each domain, it also splits the zone file into smaller text files.

bought....

but i'm having difficulties in downloading the .co.uk zone file...

saying server is experiencing technical difficulties...

to download the zone file do i go to

file >>> domain lists >>> zone files >>> .co.uk zone file....

is that correct, as everytime i do this, it says error system experiencing technical difficulties.

Problem: D.R.T. shows "Serial number problem or server not responding" every time after launch.
Solution: Either the D.R.T. server is down or your firewall is blocking D.R.T. from authorizing your registration and checking for updates. Disable your firewall or add D.R.T. To the trusted list.

now i just need to work out how to allow this to work with my firewall

The current .com zonefile is over 1.1G compressed. The .net zone is only around 161M compressed. I'm not sure if Nominet or DEnic give access to their zonefiles? Are you sure that these are the real zones and not just old lists?

The .net zone file is the real file, I didnt bother with the .com.

The .co.uk is not a zone file, it is a list of around 2.25 million registered domains so an OK start for a master list.

Dont know about the .de file

I think it decompresses to around 5.5G or so. It is not the kind of thing to download each day without decent bandwidth and harddrive/CPU resources.

I rebuilt a partial list of .co.uk domains for a domains tracking project on .uk last year but I haven't done much with it. The .eu stuff took up most of my time - a complete waste though. :)

It is about 10M domains at the moment so it should be a bit bigger than the .net zone. Some of the .de domains are IDNs from what I recall. (I've a list of about 2M on some of the HDs here.) I just checked - DEnic does not make the zonefile available either.

It generally takes them a while to reply. (Or it did a few years ago.) They tend to send the faxes at odd times so you would have to have the fax on auto-answer just in case. The zonefile for .com, as I've said in other posts, is large and it will take some time to process it.

Top notch bit of software for doing scans, you will need loads of RAM to scan the 200K names that is the maximum limit per session. You can run multiple instances of DRT if you need to !!!. I paid $150.00 for my copy after 5 mins hunting around on the net, so I think Admin is being a bit greedy - LOL !

Best Regards

I'm sure admin or someone posted a link to where it was about $129 a while ago? might of been £ though :(
