Dates: May 23-24, 2026
Location: Internetstiftelsen’s offices, Hammarby Kaj 10D, Stockholm, Sweden
Format: In-person technical hackathon
Host: Internetstiftelsen (.se)
In collaboration with: DNS-OARC and Netnod
Price: Free of charge
Registration: Application required
The DNS Hackathon 2026 will take place in Stockholm on May 23-24, 2026, hosted by Internetstiftelsen, the Swedish Internet Foundation responsible for .se and the operation of .nu.
This is a hands-on, in-person event for DNS enthusiasts, DNS professionals, developers, programmers, researchers, engineers, and anyone interested in building practical tools and prototypes around the Domain Name System.
According to Internetstiftelsen, the hackathon is focused on “Code and DNS”. Participants are invited to connect with other DNS specialists, share ideas, and build tools, visualisations, research prototypes, or improvements for the DNS ecosystem. Suggested areas of interest include DNS performance, privacy, security, analytics, and the DNS protocol itself.
What to expect
Why this matters to the domain industry
While this is a technical hackathon rather than a commercial domain conference, it is highly relevant for registries, registrars, DNS operators, hosting providers, infrastructure companies, DNSSEC specialists, security researchers, and anyone working with the operational side of domain names.
DNS reliability, security, DNSSEC automation, abuse mitigation, monitoring, resolver behaviour, registry operations, and measurement tools are all areas where practical technical work can have a direct impact on the wider domain name ecosystem.
Connection with Nordic Domain Days
The hackathon takes place immediately before Nordic Domain Days 2026 in Stockholm. The Nordic Domain Days programme includes a “Hackathon Results Recap” session by Kristian Ørmen of Internetstiftelsen, covering what was built during the DNS Hackathon weekend.
The Nordic Domain Days programme mentions expected hackathon topics such as DNS anycast cluster monitoring, DNS-in-Kubernetes sidecars, the EduDIG/Nerdig learning tool, Generalized DNS NOTIFY, DNSSEC and HTTPS misconfiguration time-series analysis, and next-generation RPZ.
Registration / application
Participation is free of charge, but applicants must apply. Internetstiftelsen notes that they will reply to applicants as soon as possible and that early applications will be prioritised.
