Any real sales of .uk?

That's assuming you'll be able to sell the same amount of domains as you usually do at twice the price... I can't see it.

But they are buying 2x domains now instead of 1

I will do the following

domain.co.uk £995
domain.uk £395

for both £1150

thus getting more than I would of done for just one domain, I cannot see how you cannot make money

I'm sure some will pay more for the pair, double the price though - I think not.

They were just examples of prices I pulled them out of the hat.

Everyones business model is different

Double in value? How exactly?

I did say don't cut and comment on a small portion of what I've said, things have to be viewed from the whole perspective of the post.
However, take a name that's valued at say £xxx end user price ( assuming a price with value for both the buyer and seller ), you sell the domain now for £xxx and are left holding the .uk which , because of the quality of the domain will be valued at £xxx in the future.
This is not rocket science and as I've stressed, the same logic does not apply to domains that clearly have little or no value.

Quoting the whole post for the sake of argument. The problem with that model is that you're not going to get the £XXX price today because you're not selling the .uk with it... It doesn't matter how much you value your .co.uk at if nobody is willing to buy it because the .uk isn't included.

I wish people would be out of the mindset that 2 domains = twice the price, it doesn't work like that. The pair is sold/valued for roughly the same price as the .co.uk was before and without the pair the singles are devalued significantly.

You're right, it's not rocket science.

You as the seller will make your own rules, I prefer to split the domains for many reasons.

The market was stale and the new .uk has breathed life back into domains :D

But that was the whole point of the release to generate more money for the uk economy

Right, but what are the "many" reasons you quoted? What other reasons other than personal financial gain?

And more to the point, is the model working or are you losing out on .co.uk sales because you're not including the pair? From what I see on here, DL and Sedo etc - lots of people wouldn't consider a .co.uk purchase unless they got the .uk with it.

re .org.uk

in 10 years of operating legal services online the .org.uk does work and has kudos & perhaps the equal for .co.uk for some other sectors - especially anything charity, club and legal services based. Destination is good for serp/adsense .org.uk based site but try getting a hotel to directly advertise on placename.org.uk is more tricky - .co.uk still has miles more credibility - I've seen the look of deflation many a time on their faces when you say " do you want to advertise on my placename website"

".. whats the url?"

"placename.org.uk..." "I'll think about it"

So the problem is that only the legal sector has any real serious money making potential, so within that niche .org.uk is ok.

I just sold divorce.org.uk a cracker for the legal niche. I've also sold quite a few other legal .org.uk in the past up to ££,£££ but I cannot post them here so you'll have to take my word for it. Can't be any old .org.uk, it's got to be really good one word service people need.

Trouble is commercial terms like cheap-loans.org.uk are sort of like a rapist in a nun's outfit.

This thread is very similar to the drop catching thread,

Domainers struggling to profit from the new .uk changes... a few domainers making good money

Catchers struggling to beat the big boys... there all cheating...

That's why I said it's subjective.
A lot depends on the quality of the name the skill of the seller the desire of the buyer and the original price expectation.
