10 year domain lengths

That's quite painless. Tried a domain that was due to expire next year, went online, and domain manager only allows you to select valid period so that it doesn't go over 10 years, so I did 8.

Nice to see a 2021 expiry date

I assume my Nominet credit account might get a little full in the next month or two as I start to move across to multi year registrations. I seem to remember that the system was a bit clunky in this respect? (ie. not able to make a manual payment towards an invoice before the end of the month or something?)

I did query with Nominet why there was no financial incentive to register beyond the 2yrs (as per disincentive to register at 1yr) but was told their systems didn't accomodate this and at a later date they'll be looking at this. Hmmm.

As post 2yrs are simply priced multiples of the 2yr fee then I see absolutely no reason to register / renew for more than 2 years. Even for domains I'll be keeping ad infinitum. I'd rather keep the money in my pocket thank you very much!

It could be a great way to "nudge" end user domain buyers a bit, if you renew a domain name for 10 years after it receives an enquiry but before you reply. Shows them that you're super-serious about hanging onto it...

What is the actual price, usual registration cost is £5 (£2.50 per year) + vat (£6).

I just tried out the longer registration, renewed a domain for 5 years, and was charged £15 from my Nominet credit, which makes it £3 per year, whereas it's usually £2.50 per year + the vat, so I assume that £3 includes VAT but, then they'll charge VAT on that again when I get my Nominet invoice.

No, you can do up to ten years on new regs and renewals.

Anyone who doesn't have their own tag watch out because there are some crazy prices out there.

If Nominet factored inflation (+costs of living) the DRS fee would be £1K+ by now.

The opposite could be true. Taste a domain on an initial 1 year reg, then reg longer if it goes well.
