123 E- and 4u domains

There are many domains out there prefixed with a 123 or an E or ending in a 4u.
what are people thoughts on these? do they have any value where all the other generic names are taken?
Do they rank well or have any affects on ranking?

Have a look at "domain name sales" on here and search 4u, you will see sedo sales which will give you some insight, your own research is often safer than opinions. IMO

I quite like e- domains, for example, I have the site etraveldeals.co.uk, and the domain eguitar.co.uk. I expect there have been some reasonable sales on e- domains, take a look at domainprices.co.uk.

123- names are brandable but will sell at a fraction of the price of the related generic. Also watch that no trademarks have been regged for the business type.

-4u domains, again some brandability, but perhaps not as good as 123- and you have to check that existing trademarks aren't being infringed.

In general, if you want to resale domains for large sums, you need to focus on very high quality, and that means being very fussy and sticking to the pure generic terms and quality extensions. Lesser domains with prefixes or suffixes are fine if you want a high turnover and have very realistic expectations.

Thanks for the insight accelerator. For me its more about keyword ranking and traffic than the resale value of the domains. For the domain im looking at i might go for a hyphenated E- it just reads better i think and lately im seeing hyphen domains rank quite well
I personally think 4u's are cheesy fly by night names anyway!

There can't be a lot of value attributed to a 123 type domain name otherwise I wouldn't have been able to hand reg 123creditcard.co.uk and 123creditcards.co.uk on 14th & 11th of January this year. They were both just sitting there. (I regg'd the singular three days after the other when it dawned on me that the singular might be worth having too.)

If you want to reg domains for development, I'd say you are best taking a look at the keyphrase volumes from Google and registering a domain that gets decent traffic as well as being a domain that helps in conversion (think what questions a searcher might ask in the final stages of purchase and reg a matching term).

many years ago before the internet - in the days of the yellow pages - you could place a number in front of your business name and you will be on the first page of the directory

or an A, A+ ABC-plumbers
I wonder if thats where the notion of e- or 123 comes from?

Another way of finding out how much the 123, e or 4u prefix/suffix domains are worth is by approaching Nokta and asking how much they want for any of theirs
