14 registration numbers

Did any of you guys also buy any of the 14 reg plates released to day by DVLA?

I managed to get my surname but with the 4 making an A so well pleased.

Loving words, I tried to think of a few that matched exactly but struggled

SH14TZU is one for dog lovers
AV14TOR for a pilot

And then cheated on word search and found

AM14BLE

Now seeing tons when missing a letter

TR14LS /a/b/c/etc

TR14DS for someone very brave

TR14GE for a nurse

MM14OWS for cat people

OP14TES for drug dealers

It's fun to look at these, but if I ever got one I would be laughed out of the pub. Some of them cost more than my car...

Its a bit mental that the DVLA sell these as 'premium' plates... yet the only way to actually use them is either misrepresent letters, add screws or bolts to change laters, or illegally space them. Which will all lead to a fine and potentially the plate being revoked if you get caught more than once

Personally, I think they look awful. I can't really think of a good reason to have one.

Hiding the age of your car? That just looks like you're embarrassed you're driving an old wreck.

Putting your name or surname? That just looks like you're vain, you want everyone to notice you.

Using a car name like "BMW 1" or whatever? A bit pointless, we all knew it was a BMW anyway.

There's been talk of a crack down on incorrectly spaced plates for a while and I believe that an incorrectly spaced number plate is, or will be made, an MOT fail. I cannot be sure though. Despite this I still see a large number of incorrectly spaced plates in use.

It is an MOT fail legally. In fact the ONLY road legal number plates require the name and postcode of the supplier in small writing on the bottom, which is of a company who are DVLA registered and only make plates to the British Standard. Thus even number plates made to the correct standards, but do not carry the manufacturers details are also technically illegal. People will swap the plates nice and easy for the MOT.

If you display a number plate spaced incorrectly you can at worst have it taken from you.

Its a shame that it only tends to be younger drivers, or drivers of standard cars that get pulled for it, you see so many sports/luxury cars with incorrect spacing and seem to have no problems.

In my opinion look stupid/cheap incorrectly spaced.

It is an MOT fail... but no doubt all these people just kept a legal set and swapped them over for the MOT. It would take 2 minutes and even I could do it

The right plate can enhance a nice car. I had a rather witty, correctly spaced, '57 plate on two different high value cars a few years ago (one after the other) and I often witnessed people read it and smile or even take photographs. The plate was spotted and mentioned on various forums. At the time it was fun and made two nice cars a little bit more unique.

I don't feel that it would have enhanced the look of the car in any way, regardless of how 'witty' you thought it was. At least with some crappy mods it can easily be undone pre-sale though so no big deal either way if its legally spaced etc.

That doesn't make sense to me. I own my YoB + initials as a plate and when I have it on a car it makes remembering the plate very easy. It will never age because my YoB and initials won't change.

imo anyone saying 'its easy to remember' is just looking for an excuse for putting a vain plate on a car. How can it be hard to remember a car number plate, or why would you even have to? Email yourself a few pics and if the car gets pinched you can hand them to the cops, they'll even have the plate on them

Those ones aren't my thing. How about "Y 5AVE" on a Bentley or "YE5 1 CAN" on an Aston Martin? In the past I've seen both. Clever but of course incorrectly spaced.

Personal preference here... but imo both of those look horrendous. They aren't funny, they don't tell you anything of value... I'm struggling to see why you'd want them.

A pair of plates he's boasting about, that are absolutely worthless unless you do something illegal with them. If you don't turn that 6 or 8 into a B... then I'd love to hear his reasoning for owning them.
