Hey everyone,

I have been approached by a company who wants to buy my domain "name.co.uk" and the brand that i had developed for the website.

They are not interested in the current content, they just want to rebrand their company as "name".

There is another company "name.com" that also exists and they want to buy it as well which makes me think they are pretty serious as name.com is a well established business.

I asked him to make me an offer and he responded with asking what i would accept. My question is what sort of money should i hold out for. The domain is a couple of years old with pr3 and gets 200-300 uniques a day.

Thanks,

Simon

You could talk to Rob - he's a top bloke.

Alternatively, think of a price you want, double it, and offer that

I wouldnt say its a case of 'holding out' for cash, there is a ballpark value to name, and in cases like these there is the hassle factor for you on rebranding. This can be anything from reprinting letterheads, changing over bank info, alerting clients to new address and building up a new site with similar online visiblity.

Similarly its worth thinking about clauses for sales, eg. you have your old email address redirecting for x months on transfer over.

No real figure can be stated without knowing name and circumstances, likewise its always easier to get a price when you can justify it.
