The transfer page at Nominet now states that accredited registrars can transfer a domain.

Does this now mean that you no longer have to use Nominet's transfer process? Does both sending and receiving registrars have to be accredited?

Basically has anyone used this? :D

In theory it will mean that you can push the domain from one account to another at the same registrar and the full registrant details will be changed over. It may also mean that you will be able to amend the registrant details to the buyers details yourself and then do a TAG change to move it over to the buyers registrar.

Basically it just gives accredited registrars the extra ability to edit the registrant field.

In practice it will be down to how (and if) registrars actually implement the option. I've not heard of any registrars offering it yet.

Thanks Grant. I was requested a Nominet domain transfer from someone when they did the normal "it's unlocked and here's an authorisation code". On pointing out the error of their ways they pointed me to the Nominet page stating registrars can do it! How to make an awkward process more awkward...
