Maybe back in 1999 but not now.
I would say thats the wrong way round. In 1999 it would be "PokerChips4u.com" getting millions of quid funding but now the focus is on decent descriptive / short terms.
So I take it you three would be willing to pay £3k for this domain, a good discount for a quick sale based upon your appraisals.
2-3k would be a good price for a reseller to nab the name at yes.
I worked for the Uk's top bookmaker for 5 years, and know lots of people here and in Gibralter, they just dont buy names at those prices, 3k yes, 5-10 no. Unless of course it is a pair and has potential. i sold two gambling domains to one of the posters in this thread, they got the names a few hundred less than they were worth, I know this as I was offered more once the sale was agreed, and this way by a big company.
Likewise I know of large .uk sales in the £xx,xxx to speculators and end user companies in betting fields - one of which was a name of a comparable nature - ie. more a sub term rather than generic descriptor.
I am not saying you are wrong or I am right as everyone cannot be aware of all sales. What it does show is that appraisal threads such as these are useful as it gives a nice big mixing pot for all opinions and knowledge to mix.
So far we have learnt that the name is worth min of a couple of grand and likely to be able to get ~£5k for it, but more is possible. Lex will then pop on and say its worth a million quid, then we can all go to Hawaii
My point being, an appraisal should be what people could see themselves paying, not making an offer, but what they genuinely feel the domain is worth to them, that way any poster gets a range and in turn the market sets the value.
Thats tosh - apprisals should be (IMHO) reseller and end user, not what its worth to me as a domainer. There are loads of tyre kickers on boards who will offer £500 all day long for a £10k+ name.
To me this domain would be worth a grand as a resale target - but there are domains out there that fit better to what and who I know. If I had the right gambling related contacts it would be worth apprasing it £low and paying £2-3k to pick it up and turn it around

However thats not cricket
That way if you all genuinely feel that a domain is worth mid to high £x,xxx even though you arenot buying at present, if it were offered to you at £3,000 you would have to purchase, as it would be too good an opportunity to miss. unless of course you over valued it originally.
So a domain appraisal has to be at 50% ? If a £100k name was posted would I be banned from saying its worth £100k as I dont want to fork out £50k for it?!
If I am wrong, so be it, but an appraisal should be correct, it has to start somewhere on the web, why not here at Acorn Domains.
I think on the whole Acorn is the most honest and realistic free appraisal venues for none domainers around (in .uk)
Unless of course you all work for Sedo, and over valued domains just keep them parked forever and a day, making you money yes, but the parking company much more.
I have always been impressed with sedo valuations usually within 10%ish of a sales price or an offer, apart from once which they were £40,000 under price, but that was a 'special' name.
Appraisals are so far out of sync
Is it really that crazy to say PokerChips.co.uk could be worth £5000 - £10,000? If it popped up as sold somewhere for a figure around that I doubt there would be many that suprised.
Usual disclaimer : Domains are worth what someone will pay for them , and the likelihood of a sale counts towards a domains value.
It would be interested to hear from the domain owner, as I am guessing that he/she might have had a few offers over the last few years?
