Wanted: Domain Appraisal Appraisals on a few .me`s

Tricky to value a new ccTLD. Right now, I'd say they'd be worth little.

Appraisal: Reg fee
Comments: Congratulations your pre-orders all fell through, and stop investing in a useless extension.

Sounds harsh huh? - I don't want to bash you or anything, i'm just saying you're lucky not to have your money spend on something that isn't going anywhere.

i dont want congratulating on my preorders falling through, and i dont think its a completley useless extention, its just going to take time to catch on like many others. im still buying .me as i am writing this.
maybe i am wasting my money but whats the point in having it if your not going to waste it?

1: It's not going to catch on.
2: Stop buying them.
3: If you want to waste money there are far more enjoyable to things you can waste it on.

You're better off investing in one good domain then a whole bunch of useless domains.

My reasons are as follows:

- new ext, so could have .eu . mobi . asia .whatever and in the coming years there will be even more .rubbish

- release was yesterday, no added value or awareness.

- No SE based benefit so keyword style names do not enhance site value. A good example of this in practise is org.uk

- The extension is 'personal' due to 'me' unless you are targeting montenegreo based biz. Your registrations do not suit (IMHO) 'me' in that manner eg.

Please will you Flood me
CreditCrunch me?
Free fun me?
Motorhomes me please!

The only one that sort of works is Valet me, but I am not sure if I would want a valet done to me personally.

Names are not great in a less than promising extension, so certainly reg fee currently (if not less) and long term I do not see them doing well based on previous similar performance, the increase in new extensions and potential for political instablity over the longer term.

i know what your saying but im not looking at it as in "me" personaly.
another one of those marmite situations i think. you either hate it or love it.
nice to hear from anyone else who has any .me`s

i know what your saying but im not looking at it as in "me" personaly.

Ok just scanned floods.* as example:

floods.hk
floods.sg
floods.ag
floods.at
floods.be
floods.fr
floods.it
etc etc all free.

What makes .me better, especially after you have taken away the 'personal' element behind the english language meaning?

not sure about this statement... :p

Why?

Google geo-locates, and likes certain extensions. I think they wiped out the entire ranking for *.info recently for example.

IMHO .org.uk is a cheap and cheerful way to get some-keywords.org.uk into UK google with a nice enough looking domain for SERP based ranking / clicks.

My point is .ME does not have that :)

nothing makes it better or worse, infact i may grab the lot while im high on coffee:)

If Rob already didn't convince you already and now reading this post, i have to conclude your not buying domains for future resell potential...you just like wasting money on domains...

I am quite bullish about .me domains. The extension is short and easy to spell and remember, which makes it good for advertising. I think motorhomes.me is a good domain and I would say that it is already worth more than reg fee and will only increase in value. I think the promotion of .me by the likes of GoDaddy will lead to a rapid increase in profile and uptake and some .me domains will achieve useful valuations.

Rgds

I misconstrued your point - thought you meant the opposite.

By using the Google Webmaster Tools, can you not reassign the geo-location of the domain name? I imagine this would not as successful as a .co.uk, but does it have some effect??

Maybe....maybe not...

Im in two minds about .me's value. The same could be said about .cn, but there is a 'rush-on' as its new and its selling well for registrations.

If enough people jump on the bandwagon, Sedo an'all, it may well rollercoaster and initially the first keywords going on sale/auction may well turnover good returns.

I have purchased footprint.me and so far thats my only .me purchase. I aim to sell it for at least 20 times what I paid for it, so it should be a good investment.
