I'm new to this whole 'approaching someone to buy a domain' thing since I tend to register them directly, pick them up from friends or grab them at auction.

I'm after a domain name which I presume is not worth much commercially as it's a 5 letter first name - just want it for personal use. Having said that, I'm not sure why they'd bother to register it if it wasn't worth something?

I've read on here that the best way to get tagnames.co.uk's attention is to approach them with a price - but the problem is that I have absolutely no idea how much it's worth.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I don't have a massive budget!

That won't help, they're not bargain sellers from all accounts, but let us know how you got on nevertheless.

Hi Blossom,

It all depends on the name and what the owner wants to sell for at that time. Keep in mind they could hold it for another 20 years at little cost to them.

I approached the owner of my 6 letter first name a couple years ago and was quoted £25k +vat

Wow. Based on that, I'm not going to bother!

I picked up the .me at auction for around $10-15, so that will do.

Thanks guys.

I tried picking up my own first name and the price was "if it puts my sons through college". So good luck with getting a bargain :).

If that was the .co.uk I used to own it, but swapped it for something. His sons name IIRC .
