Are .me.uk's really worth the punt?

Following on from a recent .cc, are .me.uk's really worth the punt?

Looked on the boards, probably already been covered...

If so, my apologies, could you direct me....

Otherwise, are .me.uk's really worth the punt?

What's the criteria for a successful .me?

Does it differ from .co.uk?

I've only ever looked at one .me.uk address and that was because a company related to my main business own the name homesfor.me.uk.

I'd never consider buying one myself.

I've found that they're a useful alternative to offer to customers who want a domain name that reflects their surname (or firstname) where the .co.uk and .com are already gone. That's for new registrations though.

However I think there's limited resale value aside from a few standouts.

I don't think there's really been any massive .me.uk sales have there?

Aside from the obvious such as marry .me, divorce .me, etc.... it's pretty much secondary use from what you point out...

On another issue, do you know why nominet chose this extension instead of something a little more practical?

I've spent good money on two .me.uks only to consolidate what I already have in other tlds.

Just because I was too slow really.

I like the personal touch of .me.uks eg pretty me beautiful me touch me
and for individual consultants like designer me webdesigners me accountant me

etc
show off to you missus (and to mention at parties as a chat up line!) Well that's the sort of corner I end up in at parties.

Otherwise, they seem to be a gentle sort of domain name unlike .com

I doubt whether they will ever get traffic but will look good on a personal/business card.

So never any really good value as corporate domain, but a few quid here and there for consultants/individual practitioners

I can't remember the detail, but I think there was some detailed consultation about it. There is a whole set of procedures etc for creating new UK extensions.

I think they look really good on google ads and if you're spending serious money each month and they can help with your click through ratio's then they must have a vaule. They look really personal and are obviously UK.

Reading your posts and 'between the lines' of what's said, with an understanding now of the background on .me.uk and seeing the actual way in which it is perceived and pactically utilised, has enlightened me on another of the many facets of domaining...

On the one hand, I see it has uses...

On the other, in practice, it's uses are limited by the 'me' factor...

That said, it would appear that it's real value is more psycological and derived from the perception of the individual or potential buyer unlike the usual criteria for domain valuations...
