At eleventh hour, most .uk registrants still don’t own their .uk names

Makes you wonder why they introduced it......

At least they're going to market it in May... 1 whole month before forci...er offering the domains to everyone.

'Get your uk before someone else does and dilutes your brand, ruins your business, and may even attempt reverse hijacking on you later - purely optional of course'.

'Dilute someone else's brand and earn from their success - get your uk now'

'Get your UK now - not only our registrar friends/family need new Ferraris - nominet board members in need'.

Yeah I forgot. The £750 fees will be rolling in. It's good though because really the uk benefits....um....had it...nope it's gone.

They don't even need to pay £795 to start the case they will be flooded with them and they don't even seem to block the silly ones...

Everyone knows how much I hate .uk, yet I also know that I have to protect the .uk for my business. So I hopped online to register the extension for a bunch of domains... and Nominet's online panel through a hissy fit about something, so I gave up.

I will sort it out before the deadline, but I still basically view it as a pointless price increase on .co.uk.

Am I right in thinking we can reg them for one year free of charge with an SMT - before end of March?

If you phone nominet up, they can manually add you to the free 1 yr scheme before hand, its the first time this has been offered but they need to take up to be big so bending over backwards.

My account, I signed up Feb/Mar for the free 1 year and it wasnt applied, so I phoned up a few days ago and they said they can manually add me.

Here is what Tommy Butler thinks.

I dumped 99% of my .co.uk domains about3 years ago some them had since 1999. Two reasons for this first when Nominet increased price by 100% overnight it told me that things getting out hand in UK namespace. Also with brexit going to kick in you really need .com if your doing business on global market. WE started to focus more on .com and increase buying up .com domains. Pleased with sort names we have manged to pick up.

There is another factor being Scottish as soon Scotland becomes independant its just a matter of time then will no such thing as United Kingdom any longer thus making the .UK name space wrong. Then add the .UK domain ect into market this extention should have been given to .Co.uk owners but greed took over and now your being sort blackmailed into taking the ext just to protect what you have built up over the last 20 years.

Yes its a total messed up extention not worth the value it one had due to stubid politics and little England mentality by the politicians and brexiteers. Now makes buying .co.uk &.UK domain more than .Com and .com is domain with the value. as domainer and business owner. just sometimes you have to mark hard choice of deleting domains that you dont see any value in any longer.
