Just saw a B&Q advert on Channel 5 promoting the domain name kitchen-compare.com.
No news there, it's B&Q after all, but it is weird hearing the voiceover saying "visit kitchen hyphen compare dot com".

Just my random thoughts, but if anyone else thinks it's good or bad, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Odd to use that when their main website is DIY.com

ROTFL! KitchenHYPHENCompare.com indeed! LOL! Whatever happened to KitchenCompare.com or .co.uk!

At the moment - Astonished
Method in the madness ? I can't find it.

Not even sure it is a B&Q site from the about us page

Kitchen-compare.com is a totally independent company on a mission to demystify the kitchen market and make it easier for people to find their perfect kitchen at the right price. Our team of experts have all worked in the Home Improvement industry for many years, so you can rely on our experience to help you get the best deal.

Choosing a new kitchen can be both an exciting and daunting experience and here at Kitchen-compare.com our aim is to make the buying process simpler, easier and quicker. We believe that by doing this, it leaves you more time for the fun stuff, like choosing the style of your new kitchen, the matching appliances and the overall look of your room.

We check and update the kitchen prices every day so the information on our website is always up to date. The prices are based on 3 model kitchens, the most popular kitchen layouts, which give a ‘level playing field‘ making it easier to compare prices as closely as possible. As well as an overall price for the model kitchen we will highlight the differences between the kitchens available and give details of any current promotional activity or special deals that may be running.

I see the same company irg recently regged the hyphenated bathroom and bedroom compare domains, seem's to be some sort of marketing company.

Interesting stuff.
Wonder if other big names will follow suit.
I expect to hear the word 'hyphen' on the radio, but was strange to hear it on tv with the domain displayed at the same time.
Anyway, thanks for all your input.
:)

This is the problem any true domainer has - companies of all sizes just not understanding domains, and the marketing benefits it gives.

I also think there's an argument that we're all a little too deep in to this, and on face of it people generally find the company their looking for (let's face it if the searcher were to find another site selling or advertising the same thing, doesn't mean they will shop there - and will refine their search / blame Google / blame their computer / blame the missus / blame the cat etc....

I think it looks damn awful when you see a business email address end in @yahoo.co.uk or @msn.com - when they have a domain and website already. Using Outlook Express or other free email software would mean they could use [email protected] instead. Much more professional - but they just don't get it!!!!

Although bet many of their customers would email to the yahoo email address without giving a second thought....

We are all trying to get out a message about what's right and wrong when in practice the business - nor customer - know or care.

I thought that when I saw the ad - it's bizarre. For a company that obviously understands domains enough to buy diy.com, there must have been a million better names than kitchen-compare. But if it's just a marketing company and not B&Q itself I guess that makes sense. Weird that they would want to be associated with it though. When I saw the ad I just thought it sounded like B&Q had teamed up with an affiliate site or something.
