How can I tell whether a registration has been bought in bad faith:-

Person registers *******.co.uk and .com in 2003

My company sets up and trades under a very similar name ie. only s different in 2005

Competitor then supposedly buys *******.co.uk and .com and redirects traffic to their site....I use the word supposedly because whois does not show change of ownership date??

Hi Lee,

The whois doesn't show date of change but Nominet have the records. I'm sure they would give out the date of change not sure if they would provide previous owner details though.

I will ask monday

Thanks Paul, I will ask tuesday...have an inclination that I have a case to be firmer than....finecheeses....good if I get willoughby as the expert.

Anyway might be 100000/1 chance that they did actually register the two domains names in 2003...unlikely on the balance of probability.

thy will payout money for drs to save smelly cheeses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may be able to get some evidence from archive.org.

Obv wouldn't actual change of ownership, but change of site a good indicator.

nominet@nominet

Jay kindly told me to email nominet@nominet and I clearly got nominet@nominet..................

nominet@nominet said they couldn't give me the date that ownership changed hands due to data protection.....er what???

When has a change of ownership date been subject to data protection...oh well

If you want to protect your rights then what do you do???

can't see how the data protection act has anything to do with it, the data was publicly available on the whois so all you're asking for is old whois data.

nominent@nominet email

As I said...the email was sent to nominet@nominet so I wouldn't guess that ed or jay were dealing with the enquiry!!

I have asked them to clarify........can't make a drs without it!!!!!!!!!!!!
