Caught the co.uk but missed the .uk?

Hi Guys,

Ok so I caught a co.uk yesterday to then check the .uk but it as already caught by another member on here,

First question;

Which you would prefer if you could only have one?

And would you try and buy the .uk to pair up?

Happened to me also recently. I would prob prefer .co.uk initially as it has a lot more public awareness.

I don't think I'd bother pairing immediately. Wait for the .uk seller to find a buyer and then hold them to ransom for yours

Probably to slap a £5k price tag on it, sit on it for 10 years, then drop it.

Too early to tell what the long term winner extension will be, but my instinct is that there will be one. Until then, if the person with the other half of a pair is a known domainer, perhaps try and work a deal so that you help them pair a different domain i.e. each of you ends up with 1 pair where you had one unmatched domain each.

If the .co.uk is half the price of the .uk, then will the buyer really care which they are buying?

It's only going to effect a relatively small number at the moment, but it certainly adds some more competition to the marketplace.

I guess it depends how much you really care about the name? For my business name or any brand you'd be mental to only take one of them. For keyword/SEO plays then sure, go with whichever is cheapest (providing .uk start ranking)

It was the other way around here. I got the .uk instead and lost the .co.uk to a member on here. Divided ownership only serves to give end users more choice of where to look for their name. As mentioned, the dust over the launch of .uk hasn't settled enough yet to give an accurate value on just .uk - All you can really do is approach the member and hope for mercy. What percentage of value on a .co.uk would you consider when making an offer on a .uk?

.uk domains have always ranked, but I agree - in lots of instances, having both is the ideal scenario.
