Check if domain registration has lapsed and been offered publicly in the past

Im trying to tell if a currently registered doamin, registration has lapsed in the past. When i look at the Whois it tells me that :

Expires On August 25, 2016
Registered On August 25, 1999
Updated On October 22, 2015

I got this data from http://who.is is there a way i can tell if in October 22, 2015 the domain was renewed or if it had lapsed become public and then re registered ?

It would not have the 1999 date if it was deleted then reregistered.

To clarify, from the information you provided, the domain has been continuously registered since 1999. However something about it was updated on 22 October 2015. It might have been renewed on that date, but equally the contact info or nameservers or something may have been edited - there's no way to tell what the change was.

On who.is they have a History tab. Depending on if/when the domain was looked up previously there can sometimes be useful data cached, such as previous nameservers, change in registered address etc.
