I thought it might be a good idea to started a thread where people can add their claim to fame regarding a domain/website that you have that has been mentioned somewhere famous.

When checking the logs for my online petition site I saw a few people coming from http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeeho...payer-should-not-be-bailing-out-ireland.thtml

I don't know how they've done it but they've managed to link to a page on my site where you can't actually sign the petition!

Are you feeling famous, share your mentions!

My site EmailAddresses.com has been mentioned in the "Rough Guide to the Internet" book for at least the last 7-8 years (it's still in the latest edition). It's also listed in dozens of other books. Oh, and I'm namedropped on page 36 of "The Domain Game" :)

I had a leytonorient fan site which i managed to get on the suns website.
I did a page where fans could make donations to raise £20M to sign Ronaldo. That ended up will a full page story and some big european newspapers too. They took it a bit more serious than i intended.

How much was donated, and what happened to it?

That's great! How much did you raise?

About Fifty quid, which was given to the club. Was a great spike of traffic but quickly died off. I sold the site shortly afterward.

Great idea Mate I own EveryPromotion.com that was on a BBC2 internet program I think it was against Isawu.com and firebox.com I own it only because my friend who stared in it let it drop

But but... the site... its like... gah. Sometimes I lose my faith in designing actually mattering. :/

Oh and I have no domaining claim to fame. A few slight website claims to fame.

Appearances can be deceiving - the site gets over 200k visits a month, and has done for many a year... In fact, I would guess it's had over 20,000,000 visitors since I set it up in 1998!

Yep, exactly. Thats why I am losing my faith in good design! I am surprised mail.com or MS haven't bought it off you :)

Owned hotmail.co.uk for a few weeks - does that count? :)

Won an award from Lord Sugar and had a couple of half page write ups in The Mirror in his column when he had it with my web address on it, flown down and went to his personal home/office in London. He was so proud of his Amstrad Emailer (2001) :)

My attempt

I streaked at a utd game with playforluck.com wrote on me, a got a full page in Zoo magazine but the photo was on an angle so you couldn't see it properly, you could read it on the website of some police force in China though, god knows why it was on there ?

Tip > if you ever streak don't write the url as big as you can, do it a little shorter so it fits into shot ;)

I owned thpsforums.com about eight years ago and made a program with the extreme sports channel. Met tony hawk who I beat at his own game. My name was in the credits under the title gaming guru.

I tell people this story over and over. I was also on the cover of my local paper for saving an old lady who drove her car into a tree.

Really? What happened? Did Microsoft pull your Y-fronts down, spank your bum and ask you to hand over the domain?

Yup really.

Nope, a very polite call from a senior person at MS saying they forgot to renew it and can they have it back :)

Said absolutely, and perhaps you'd like a company to manage your domains and prevent such mistakes happening again. We still do domain work for them today.

Was covered in theregister at the time.
