I asked recently about what CMS I should go for for an Ecom shop and came to the conclusion that opencart was the way to go. Thanks for those that fed back in that thread btw.

I've decided to take a different approach for now as Im not going to be settled in the UK to stock anything for another year or so and really don't want to dropship (I've heard it's more bother than it's worth)....

So what I'm thinking is develop the sites I have in mind and rather than have a login/shopping cart, just send them off to a third party site (Amazon being the obvious choice). Then once the site is where I want it to be I can physically start stocking goods and operate a proper online shop.

What would be the best way to incorporate what Im talking about above? All of the Amazon affiliate templates I've seen look awful. Perhaps you can point me in the direction of something that looks nice? The other option would be to grab an opencart template off of themeforest and get certain parts removed (login, shopping cart, basket, etc) and simply direct people to stockists through aff links. Im guessing this would be a simple job?

Anyway, how would you suggest developing such a site?

Thanks in advance.

I believe ShopperPress is the flavour of choice, though I still haven't got around to using it myself.

There are all kinds of discount codes and aff codes available if you decide it's for you.

Shopperpress is perfect for this, using it on http://www.hospitalbag.org.uk/bags/

Integrated shopping cart or send users directly to Amazon, plenty of options and ways to customize it.

Unfortunally the above mentioned site is not ranking, not sure what the issue is but it might have something to do with Shopperpress, a bit like the FSB effect :)

This looks interesting. I'm going to bed in a sec so will have a proper look in the morning. Admin - as long as there are no better promos knocking about I will use your code for sure.

PD - your bag site. What if the user clicks on buy now? The product goes into their cart and then they pay for it... do you stock all this stuff? An overview of how it works would be great!

Forgot to ask how it is for SEO too. As I said before, I'll be moving over to a proper shop at some stage so is it all exportable using WP?

Sorry to spam this thread but this doesn't fill me with confidence. Do you think it might be due to the site being in shopperpress? Not much point in using it if it is!

Give it a try :)

If a user adds something to their cart they are being forwarded to Amazon when they pay for it.

I can't seem to get my head around this site... Had a few links, didn't rank.. removed links, didn't rank either.

The site is 100% unique content, even all product descriptions so I would expect the site to rank somewhere in Google but it doesn't.

So perhaps its the theme used

Hmm not sure I want to get involved if G is picking up on it/penalising sites powered by it. I could understand why they would in their hypocritical (so want to say "little" but cant) minds.

What about this. Take something like this , remove the shopping baskets, etc and link directly to the products. No (potential) red flag from Google and although it will be harder work, the benefit is that the site will look a lot more pleasing/probably convert better.

Theoretically it should be fine as Shopperpress can be used for complete ecommerce sites as well as just aff sites.

@Marcoose

I have created a set of VQmods for Opencart that alter the buy buttons & cart to work with deeplinked AWIN products from a CSV feed. PM if of any interest.
