Well I've been on and off the phone to them Emailing backwards and forwards all day offering some good money for it and they don't want to sell it!! we shall see, if it drops I will laugh! (then cry) then laugh again!!

I don't know. Some domainers perform a renewal but make sure they don't have money to cover it - that keeps a domain from dropping. I don't know about this tag.

Doesn't contacting domain owners alert them that their domain is dropping, something they might not have known, and make it much more likely they will renew?.

Yes, but no one would have tried to catch it for me so it was my only choice

I think it's worth a try. Sometimes they might be releasing it because they just don't want it any more, and sell to you at a low-ish price.

Having said that, I enquired about a domain recently, that was marked as 'No Longer Required' and set to drop in the next couple of months. I contacted them and had a response back saying "It was a mistake.". To the point, blunt, and fairly rude. So you win some, and you lose some!

However, my experience is v. limited!

No I'm not a catcher, I've bought a few after contacting the owner instead of them letting the name drop but it doesn't often happen.
