Interested to know what peoples thoughts are on the price of .com and .co.uk domain names in relation to the current credit crunch. As you probably all know all commodities (houses, cars, oil, retail goods, etc) at the moment are falling in price (technical term is "Deflation"), and as such have you found when buying or negotiating to buy a domain name that the price is now a lot less than say a year ago.

There are certainly some complete bargains to be had (see promotions.co.uk and breaks.com that increased in value 3 fold from £50k to £150k in a week) but more with domains than with stocks, now is a great time to buy.

The recession has to a large extent sorted the wheat from the chaff and alot of mediocre and crap domains are now worth much less. Probably just a correction.

Good domains are generally still undervalued in my opinion and so the recession isn't affecting them as much.

However, it is true that the regular domain auctions are not getting in as much money so it has obviously affected the whole marketplace.

Like has been said in the media, those with cash at the minute are ina superb situation. The above purchases back that up.

Now where did i hide that £100k...

I said a few months back I thought it was a good time then to buy .coms as the pound was so strong.

If you had bought a good lll.com for $10,000 only 6 months ago it would have cost you £5000

Sell that same name today for $10,000 and you get back £6,284

.

This is why I have been mounting my $$$'s in my affiliates until the £/$ gets to more like $1.3 to the £1 :)

I'm not sure just yet is the time to buy from seasoned Domainers, as many are still quoting 5 month old numbers, they havent felt the pinch, buying from newer ones and end users is def now, got some corking names on the go once I can access my funds again.

Still having that nightmare with barclays ^^.

Just like houses.. nows the time to buy.

i wouldn't touch a house with a barge pole at the moment, remember that building societies were offering five and a half times annual salary which was mad before the recession hit and there were well over 600,000 empty properties(land registry) and according to my very good friend(estate agent:D)who is trying his hardest to tell his customers that they will have to drastically reduce there asking price to get punters in,they are hoping for a miracle but it looks like they will take a 30/40% hit on july 07 valuation, don't forget that repo's are increasing so that will increase the pool of houses.

my crystal ball says another 9mths minimum til we see a bottom. unless gordon scraps stamp duty. might pigs fly.

I think there is a lot of pain to be had yet, although I think flats have been built everywhere and they are going to take a much bigger hit that semi detached etc, some have already lost 50 on their sale value in Leeds.

But a few more months and things should be near the bottom.

Good time buy some great shares with high dividends!!

Esp. as interest rates peg down! You'll be lauhging with these double digit divi's!

yes thats right the banks are not going to be able to pay the dividends, well the bail-out banks. There are some great companies out there paying quite good dividends, like Intel (~4%), GE (~7%) etc etc...Good stuff

I think the best is yet to come as far as domains are concerned. Businesses will soon start to see the benefits of 24hr advertising, lower overheads, etc that the internet provides. As people feel the pinch the will look for the most cost effective way to run their business.
