how easy or hard would it be to automatically post (at set intervals) available names onto a site, from a database?

could be done - you'd well I'd use a access database linked to a ASP page. the only issue would be timing the release - timming systems are normally very processor intensive. the best way would be to kick it off using a windows scheduled task to run a quick VB app or something that triggered the whole thing off - for someone compentent - should be a couple of hours max

Who's Ron? 8)

Ron the chimp. Trained to read a clock and click a button at specific times :)

I am paying peanuts...or is that bananas!?

I have contacted the local zoo and they are assessing their primates for a suitable candidate, although I can't say I am very optimistic about this solution.

Cron seems a better idea, which is already performing another task for me quite successfully.

I don't, as yet, have a site to use the requested function, but thanks for your suggestions
